Relics From a Bygone Era
Many animals alive today have lineages that date back to the time of the dinosaurs. Crocodilians, for example, have been around for over 200 million years. The tuatara, a reptile species found in New Zealand, is another survivor from the dinosaur era. Other animals that lived during the Mesozoic Era and are still alive today include sea turtles, mammals, fish (including sharks), turtles, snakes, amphibians, lizards, and birds.
