Dallas Stars at crossroads after Game 5 loss to Oilers

Defending Western Conference champions in danger of playoff elimination

Missed opportunities and poor defense haunt Dallas in crucial game

The Dallas Stars are facing elimination in the Western Conference Semifinals after dropping Game 5 to the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 on Tuesday night.

After winning the first two games of the series at home, Dallas has now lost three consecutive games and will need to win Game 6 in Edmonton on Thursday to avoid being swept out of the playoffs.

"We didn't play well enough to win," said Stars captain Jamie Benn. "We had our chances, but we didn't capitalize. And they made us pay for our mistakes."

The Stars had several power-play opportunities in the game, but they were unable to convert. They also gave up two goals on the power play to the Oilers.

"We need to be better on the power play," said Stars coach Rick Bowness. "We had some good looks tonight, but we didn't get the job done."

The Stars will need to find a way to turn things around quickly if they want to stay alive in the playoffs. They will have their chance to do so in Game 6 on Thursday.
